I want to grow old with you, Robbie

Robbie Williams’ music at his concert yesterday was not enough for me, but I left happy and with a heart full of love again. And I felt embraced. It’s heartwarming with the growth of an artist whose music you love. And even though you have a lot of differences, you are united by his sincerity, his kindness and the similar stage in your life path. To be 20 together and everything is just beginning, to go through a very turbulent 30 at the same time, then to find your direction when you are 40 and already in the middle of life.

Robbie really is the king of entertainment. You can tell he loves the entertainment and he knows how to do it. Just like he knows how to open his heart when he compose music and write lyrics and when he sings. And just like he can make an audience sing along, talking to an avatar of his 17-year-old self (because every interview he’s asked what he would say. In both of my interviews with him, I didn’t ask him that!), to wear a bra handed to him by a fan in the audience or to hang the Bulgarian flag on his microphone stand and congratulate the Bulgarian volleyball players from the bottom of his heart on their victory. Robbie can do that! He knows how to hug a girl in the audience, to agree not to know her age or her kgs, but to ask her, to sing “She is the one” with the whole audience because he has seen the life and the sparkle in her eyes. He knows how to wear any clothes, change in seconds, undress and strip his soul, but keep his humility.

And to share that his mum has dementia and doesn’t know him. That his dad had Parkinson’s and hadn’t left his room for a year, but soon, convinced by a friend, went out and went to see him in concert. That Ayda’s mother, his mother-in-law, had been diagnosed with stage four cancer and then it turned out that the cancer had cured itself. And that he enjoys going on tour because he has four kids at home and that he has to do it at the same time to feed them.

And who’s like Robbie – who would admit or joke in front of a stadium audience that he’s long gone, that he sings to us because that’s what he’s paid to do, or that he refused everyone in the audience a glow bracelet like Coldplay did at their concert because the bracelets cost 10 euros per person. And that the confetti that flew over the stadium was toilet paper from the hotel he was staying in.

In the wonderful company of the avatars of legends like Elvis Presley, Freddie Mercury and John Lennon to tell us, to tell his audience that he hopes we want to grow old with him. And all the while I was laughing at his jokes, all the while I was singing with him, all the while I was crying as he talked about his departed loved ones, I was thinking exactly that – that yes, I was young with his music, I grew up with it, and I want to grow old with it. He is truly one of a kind! On my soundtrack he is the one!
